Frequently Asked Questions
WHAT TYPES OF PROJECTS DOES MISSION IMPACT SUPPORT?
Mission Impact supports a range of long-term projects in over twenty rural communities in Guatemala. These include construction of community and school facilities, medical and dental services, teaching and training, implementing appropriate technology for improved health and hygiene, service projects, and Christian education.
HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED WITH MISSION IMPACT?
There are many ways to get involved with Mission Impact. You can join a Servant Team for a hands-on missions experience in Guatemala. You can donate monthly or a one-time donation to a ministry project or staff, or give to a special project campaign. Visit our ‘Get Involved’ page to learn more.
HOW DO MY DONATIONS TO MISSION IMPACT GET USED?
Donations to Mission Impact go directly toward supporting our ministry projects in Guatemala. This includes resources for medical services, education, nutrition, spiritual discipleship, youth leadership training, evangelism, and other community development initiatives.
IS MISSION IMPACT A REGISTERED NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION?
Yes, Mission Impact is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization. All financial gifts made to Mission Impact are tax-deductible. Our corporation’s statutes and by-laws are registered in the State of Wisconsin.
How is the COVID-19 pandemic affecting the sponsored students’ education?
Due to Covid-19, all schools in Guatemala have been closed since mid-March. However, our teachers have come up with creative ways to continue teaching their students from their homes by providing weekly homework packets, video calling students, sending them weekly devotionals, and making home visits.
What specific benefits will the student I sponsor receive?
The student you sponsor will receive a Christ-centered education with weekly devotionals, Bible classes, health checkups, dental and eye appointments as needed, field trips, access to better nutrition, and caring staff and teachers who diligently teach their students the Word of God as well as their identity in Christ.
The family of the sponsored student is also affected as our schools provide special events for parents such as Father’s Day and Mother’s Day programs to encourage them to become involved in their child’s education as well as to hear the Gospel for themselves.
Most importantly, your sponsorship allows a child to be educated in the Word of God and exposed to the Gospel through chapel, Bible classes, and encouragement as they grow in their love for the Lord. Our goal is that when each student graduates, they leave with a solid biblical foundation and are well-equipped and trained, so they will be well prepared and able to thrive in whatever path they choose.
How long is a commitment to sponsor a child?
Student sponsorship continues as long as they stay in school. We ask for a minimum commitment of one year, but many sponsors enjoy supporting their student throughout the years they are at the school.
How much does sponsoring a child cost each month?
Sponsorship costs $50/monthly or $600/annually per child. You may make your monthly payments online or mail in your support to Mission Impact.
What does my monthly donation provide?
Your sponsorship will cover the costs to provide a holistic Christian education for your student.
Where do the children attend school?
You can either choose a student from Colegio Vida y Esperanza, a co-ed school Pre-K through 11th grade in Santa Lucía Milpas Altas, or Próximos Pasos, an all-girls school in Santa María de Jesús. Both schools are fully accredited with the Guatemalan Ministry of Education and are partner-ministries of Mission Impact.
How do I make my sponsorship donation?
DIRECT PAYMENT (The preferred option!). Direct payment means that your contributions are automatically deducted from your checking or savings account each month. This method keeps our administrative costs low. We will be happy to send you an authorization form to complete and return.
Can I communicate with my sponsored child?
We encourage you to send cards and letters to your sponsored student. They love to receive photos of you and your family. All correspondence must go through Mission Impact and will be translated by our bilingual staff to pass on to your student. Keep the letters simple and share about your family, pets, job, hobbies or your favorite Bible verses. Please do not send any gifts or packages.
Where do I send my letters?
You can complete the online “SEND A GREETING” form and your note will be received the same day or mail your letter or card (with student number and name) to:
