After coming here my first time in 2007 I felt a longing to continue serving here in Guatemala, and every trip that longing to share God’s love here grew stronger and stronger. I tried to tell myself that I can fulfill this calling to share His love here with at least one trip a year, but that wasn’t enough. My calling to serve here isn’t something that can be fulfilled one or two weeks a year, my calling to serve here is a continuous service, living God’s love for the people of Guatemala out loud. In June 2009 I came down to Guatemala in search of what God wanted me to do and to learn Spanish. During this time I spent my time working at Próximos Pasos teaching a group of girls extra English, Bible, and helping in the first grade classes with reading and math. During my first six months working with these girls, the teachers, learning Spanish, and getting to know the Guatemalan culture is when it all clicked. I have wanted to be a teacher since the first day of kindergarten but have always changed what grade, age group, or subject I would want to work with but later figured out that God would lead me to where He needed me to teach and He did. We as Christians are called to love and that is what I want the girls of Próximos Pasos to learn through the classes I teach them, through the way I interact with them, and through the way I live my everyday life. I am apart of a team of teachers whose goal is to help grow little girls in God’s love and God has giving me the calling to share and teach of this love He has to offer to anyone who is willing to receive it.
